Sired by Kannan
‘Maverick 5Z’ 2017 KWPN stallion
Currently showing and available for trial in Thermal California at Desert Show Park
The sire of this horse is the superstar Kannan. Every year, the World Breeding Federation Sport Horse Ranking looks at the FEI scores of the top international jumper horses and from that, develops a ranking of the top sires. Kannan was consistently ranked within the TOP FIVE each year. No fewer than five of showjumpers in the 2016 Rio Olympics were Kannan progeny. Maverick 5Z displays the outstanding qualities of most Kannan offspring; they are scopey, careful, with very good brains. Kannan not only produced outstanding competitors as showcased in Maverick 5Z, but his OCD score of 106 was excellent Only two other stallions ranked by the KWPN had higher scores than Kannan.
Maverick’s dam is the KWPN Elite mare Davanta v/d Renvillehoeve, who was imported to Canada as a foundation broodmare for 5Z Farms. Her mareline is known in the Netherlands for producing top sport horses. During her 3-year old keuring she earned an 80 score for her free jumping. She went on the win the National Bank Financial Group, and the Reserve North American Championship of the Claybrook Cup. In 2013 Davanta earned a Top Five in North America award from the KWPN-NA. Her offspring have earned First Premium evaluations from the KWPN and are starting their careers in Wellington (Florida), Whitefish (Montana) and Calgary (Alberta).
The cross of Kannan - Quick Star via Vleut is worth noting of Mavericks lineage. Of the top 50 Kannan progeny listed by the WBFSH, five have Quick Star as the damsire. Most notable of these international Grand Prix showjumpers is the gelding Sherkan D’Amaury, who with rider Kent Farrington, won the Rolex Grand Prix in Windsor in May and came 2nd at the Spruce Meadows West Canadian Cup Grand Prix in July.
